The 8th grade STEP class will be taught again by Rabbi Levenberg with the theme of Social Justice incorporated into almost every aspect of the curriculum. The class will meet 3 times a month: 1. One session will be on a Wednesday evening at Temple Sinai for a formal class that meets from 7:15-8:30 pm. Through the Social Justice curriculum, students will learn when, how, and why social justice became such an integral part of the Jewish experience. 2. One session will be on a Wednesday evening for our SPARK program which meets at Edenbrook Assistant Care Facility (690 Mt. Vernon Highway, Atlanta, GA 30328) from 7:00-8:15 pm. SPARK is an innovative program of intergenerational service to the elderly. Based on Jewish service-learning, it combines action, Jewish text study and structured reflection. 3. A third session will be on a Sundays and will highlight a different Atlanta-based social justice organization each month. Building off of the Wednesday sessions, the students will be able to integrate the in-class sessions with a variety of hands-on experiences. |
