We know that the process of Bar/Bat Mitzvah can be a bit overwhelming. In an attempt to simplify the logistics and focus on the significance of the ceremony, we have put together a timeline of appointments leading up to the big day. This timeline can also be found on page 1 of the parent manual.

1 year prior

Student and family meet with Rabbi Segal to check Hebrew proficiency and discuss the ceremony.  Student will receive
Bar/Bat Mitzvah Notebook at this time.

 

If interested in having social event at Temple Sinai, rent hall.

7-8 months priorRachel Trope calls family to schedule clergy and tutoring appointments.

6-7 months prior

Student begins meeting with tutor weekly for 30-minute tutoring lessons.
*If you child’s tutoring falls during the summer and he/she will be away, please let Rachel Trope know ASAP!

Parents meet with Assistant Executive Director to review all administrative details/ policies (including Kiddush luncheon and other weekend events).  If joint service, this is done with both families together.

2 Months priorStudent meets with Rabbi Levenberg to assess progress.  If double ceremony, both students are present.Rachel Trope
6 Weeks priorMitzvah Projects completed and handed in to Rabbi Levenberg.

Parents submit “Personal Words of Welcome” and list of honors.

Place announcement in Atlanta Jewish Times. (May be done online.)  Optional (www.atlantajewishtimes.com)

2 weeks priorFull rehearsal in sanctuary for approximately one hour with Rabbi Levenberg. If double ceremony, both students are present.Rachel Trope

Week of Bar/

Bat Mitzvah

Full rehearsal the day before the ceremony in the sanctuary with rabbi.

Family pictures can be taken at rehearsal. Clergy will be available from 9:40 AM to 10:00 AM for pictures with the Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Please make arrangements with Lillie Janko and Rachel Trope.
