Rabbi Ron Segal

If you have entertained the thought, “I want to make a difference in our community,” but are unsure how best to make a significant and meaningful impact, I encourage you to read on.

Founded in 1987 by local churches and synagogues, including Temple Sinai, the Community Assistance Center (CAC) provides critical support for thousands of Sandy Springs and Dunwoody residents each year.  The CAC provides basic needs assistance for neighbors in order to prevent homelessness and hunger while promoting self-sufficiency and empowering individuals to thrive. Through emergency financial assistance, a food pantry, an upscale thrift store, a newly-launched career center, tax filing assistance, and countless education courses, the CAC continues to make a transformative difference in countless people’s lives. However, as the need for assistance has only grown each year, the CAC has also added satellite locations to its main site at 8607 Roswell Rd. including its newest location on Northwood Dr in Sandy Springs opening this coming week. There is a definite need for interested volunteers at the new site! Helping to support local residents by volunteering with the CAC will be truly gratifying and impactful, and I hope you will consider getting involved.

Here is some useful information to know:

  • The CAC Food Pantry and Upscale Thrift Store are open from 9:30 am-1:00 pm, Monday-Friday at the main location. Food Pantry hours at the new South Sandy Springs site on Northwood Dr will be M, W, F, 9:30 am-1:00 pm.
  • Volunteer shifts are typically 3 hours. Though certainly not required, it is helpful if volunteers can commit on a weekly basis.
  • There is significant need for volunteers who are fluent Spanish speakers to serve as Client Interviewers.
  • Individuals experienced with career coaching and resume review might consider volunteering time with the new CAC Career Center.
  • Your time, talent, and heart are needed and you can make a difference in our community!
  • Interested?  Contact Volunteer Coordinator Cameron Darweesh directly (cameron.darweesh@ourcac.org) and let him know that Rabbi Segal referred you!
  • Questions about the CAC? You are welcome to send Rabbi Segal an email: rsegal@templesinaiatlanta.org

**By the way, did you know that the Upscale Thrift store welcomes donations of men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, home goods and décor, furniture, toys, linens, and more?  The store is quite impressive; go and check it out.
