Well, this is it-the week we kick off our year of celebrating 50 Years of Temple Sinai. For those of you who have been here for the better of 50 years, I can only imagine the pride you must feel as your community bustles with excitement to celebrate the community that you helped to forge. For those who have been here only more recently, it’s impossible not to get swept up in the enthusiasm and become involved in one of the many events planned to take place throughout the coming year.

One of the things that I was asked to do for the 50th was to compose a piece of music, an anthem of sorts, that would commemorate this special time. I am so glad that this task came in my third year at Temple Sinai so I could write about our congregation from a familiar perspective. I could write from a feeling of pride, a feeling of love and feelings of deep gratitude and appreciation for the extraordinary community you are. Rabbi Segal chose the text, spoken by Rav Kook, former Chief Rabbi of Israel, “Hayashan yitchadesh, v’hechadash yitkadesh- the old shall be made new and the new be made holy.” The text spoke to me and the emotions I feel for you, my friends, come through loud and clear in the music. I look forward to the song debuting this Friday night as part of our special Shabbat service. It is my gift to you with a hearty mazal tov on 50 years of Jewish vibrancy, family, learning, and inspiration.

May we continue to go from strength to strength and be able to make a joyful noise in song to celebrate our achievements along the way.

Shabbat shalom,

Beth
