Having just come off of a fabulous weekend with guest artist Julie Silver, I am invigorated by the infusion of faith and music she brought and shared with all of us. I chose the path I chose because it combines the two things I am most passionate about—Judaism and music. My musical influences from classical and jazz, to folk and rock, have shaped my sense of melody, rhythm, and connectivity. That said, I can’t tell you how excited I am about this week’s Scholar-in-Residence, Alan Light. Alan is the foremost scholar on legendary composer, Leonard Cohen. Not only will he discuss Cohen’s vast musical catalogue this Friday evening at Shabbat Services, he will also be teaching a lunch and learn on Saturday about the influences of Cohen, Nina Simone and Johnny Cash at 11:30 am and a lecture on the iconic, "Hallelujah" on Saturday night at 7:30 pm. You do not want to miss learning about the intersection of Judaism and music from this exceptional authority on some of the greatest musical influences of our time. This weekend’s learning opportunities continue at Sunday Morning Learning. Dana Spinola, owner and founder of fashion empire Fab'rik, is coming to Sinai! In addition to her five boutiques, Dana has 33 franchises across the United States, her own clothing line, and a nonprofit organization, Free Fab'rik, that offers clothing and "the chance to feel beautiful and special" to girls in need.  Come hear her amazing story as she shares her narrative, her passions, and inspires us all!
