Israel Democracy Discussion & Lunch in the Sukkah

Friday, October 6, 2023 21 Tishrei 5784

12:00 PM - 2:00 PMSukkah

This Sukkot feels different from others. As we gather to celebrate community, friendship, and hospitality, many of us feel angst and concern over the state of democracy in Israel and its repercussions for the future of the state.

Here in Atlanta, we’ve seen an Israeli-led protest movement supporting Israeli democracy and opposing the judicial overhaul. This group has been protesting weekly, in increasing numbers; it also organizes events to educate the public on the implications of the judicial overhaul, the concerns for Israel’s democracy, and the potential ramifications for Jews in the US and worldwide.

Throughout the 8 days of Sukkot, members of this local protest movement will travel from synagogue to synagogue in metro Atlanta, and engage in conversation about the risks to Israeli democracy and the role of our local community in the effort to protect it. Here at Sinai, we are happy to host them in conversation with our clergy here at Sinai. The conversation will take place in the sukkah - a delicate structure we take much pride in; a place to build trust and community - and will aim to promote just that.

This is open to all Sinai members and guests. Lunch will be provided.

Space is limited and registration closes on Tuesday, October 3 at 10:30 am. If you are still interested in attending, please email Natan Trief to be added to a waiting list.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
