Make a difference in our community! See below for how you can lend a hand. And if you are seeking an opportunity to do a mitzvah as a family, we highly encourage you to come out this Sunday, February 12 for Social Action Sunday!
Environmental Awareness & Action Conversation
YOUR EARTH … YOUR VOICE!
The Okefenokee Swamp is Georgia's greatest natural treasure, but it is being threatened by a proposed titanium strip mine along its southeastern boundary. Twin Pines Minerals, an Alabama-based company, is pushing on all fronts to set up a mining operation, which would endanger the Okefenokee’s delicate ecosystem.
Temple Sinai’s Environmental Awareness and Action Conversation (EAAC) is trying to rally support from the congregation to protect the swamp from this threat.
You need to be heard! Click here for the ways you can help.
We also invite you to attend our next EAAC Meeting on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 pm. Join us in person or online to learn how you can get involved.
Social Action Sunday is back! Join us for our first mitzvah project on Sunday, February 12 where we will make blankets for the Friends of Refugees Embrace Program for newborns. We will also create a banner to use at Sinai during our Family Promise Sinai Family Shelter host weeks. Whether you and your family have 5 minutes or 30, we would LOVE your help. Find us in the Large Social Hall between 12:15 pm and 2:00 pm. Please register so we order enough pizza for our volunteers! If your child is attending Noar that day, you can meet us right after.
Did you know? Temple Sinai is an official "Community Buddy" of Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta!
What's that mean? We help feed food-insecure children. After getting the food from Backpack Buddies, we then pack it for each child, and deliver the packs to nearby schools where there are children who do not have enough to eat on the weekends.
Can you help? Absolutely! It is a great way to do some good in the community and spend time with fellow congregants. Please sign up to volunteer! If you have any questions, contact Co-ChairsAlice Byrne and Susan Pepper.
The Community Assistance Center seeks volunteers to serve as tax preparers and greeters for CAC clients. Becoming a tax preparer involves an online IRS certification test- open-book with study resources and in-person support available. It does not require an accounting background: tax software and reference material are provided. Volunteers can sign up for shifts at two different CAC locations, Monday/Wednesday evenings and Saturdays during the day.
Volunteer Drivers for Afghan Refugees (Afghan American Alliance)
Our Temple Sinai Circle for Immigrant & Refugee Justice is working with the Afghan American Alliance to assist refugees from Afghanistan who were forced to flee their country.
We need volunteers to drive members of these families to appointments such as Visa applications, OBGYN check-ups, etc. The drives will probably take 2-3 hours. If you have the time and would like to volunteer, or if you have any questions, please contact the co-chairs for this project Peter Savitz and Linda Richman.
Save the Date for Sinai Family Shelter Host Week
April 2-9
The Sinai Family Shelter is a wonderful way for our Temple Sinai community to come together and directly impact the lives of others. Throughout the year, the Sinai Family Shelter hosts up to four families through Family Promise of North Fulton/Dekalb that are in need of housing and hospitality. Temple Sinai provides the facilities and our members volunteer their time.
