“It is an honor to serve Temple Sinai in this position named for Charles Ackerman. His commitment to lifelong learning and educating future generations is a source of inspiration to me personally as well as to all of our educators at Temple Sinai.”
Marisa Kaiser, Charles S. Ackerman Senior Director of Learning and Engagement

For the majority of Temple Sinai's history, Charlie Ackerman, z"l, played a critical role in ensuring our congregation's vitality, continuity, and sustainability. Whether by procuring the beautiful land on which Temple Sinai sits, supporting periodic campaigns through the years to further the congregation's growth, generously sharing his financial resources to relieve burdensome debt, or assuring the congregation's future sustainability with a generous testamentary gift, Charlie powerfully demonstrated an abiding concern for the continuity of Jewish life through his philanthropic support of our synagogue.

Thus, we are thrilled to announce that the position of Senior Director of Learning and Engagement - our congregational professional who is focused most intently on the education and continuity of Jewish life for all in our Temple Sinai family -- is named in memory of Charlie Ackerman, as his continued support through the decades has unquestionably enabled us to reach this place of strength.

Charlie’s legacy gift will not only provide funding for this significant position; it was also instrumental in funding the 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign renovations in 2019. As Charlie said in 1970 at a synagogue meeting, “What we build for Temple Sinai will transcend all of our lifetimes. The future will be formed and shaped by the harmony and with the same infectious and beautiful spirit of Temple Sinai that has brought us to this point tonight.” Charlie’s gifts to Temple Sinai have continued to shape the future of our congregation through the spirit and harmony in which we were formed. And for that, we are eternally grateful.
