Keeping families together in the face of homelessness.

Prevention Shelter  Stabilization

Volunteer with us here!

The Sinai Family Shelter is a wonderful way for our Temple Sinai community to come together and directly impact the lives of others. Temple Sinai is one of many interfaith organizations that supports Family Promise of North Fulton/DeKalb and provides temporary room and board for families in transition. Throughout the year, the Sinai Family Shelter hosts up to four families that are in need of housing and hospitality. Temple Sinai provides the facilities and our members volunteer their time by providing dinner, miscellaneous supplies, overnight hosting, Saturday day hosting, helping the families move in and move out, and laundry.

Family Promise of North Fulton/DeKalb offers a continuum of care that incorporates three programs:

  1. Emergency Response - prevention and diversion services to local families in crisis including gas or food gift cards, and/or a referral to their Rotational Shelter, a sister agency or government programs.
  2. Rotational Shelter (Sinai Family Shelter) - serves three to four families with shelter and food while they receive intensive case management and support to regain employment, obtain childcare, eliminate outstanding bills, and complete financial and life skills classes.
  3. Housing Stabilization - serves families that have graduated from the Rotational Shelter into transitional or independent housing. A case manager assists these families through check-ins and mentorships to promote housing stability when they are most vulnerable to relapse.

In 2021, Family Promise of North Fulton/DeKalb, with the help of the Temple Sinai community:

  • Served 286 individuals and 696 children through the Emergency Response program
  • Served 26 adults and 31 children through the Rotational Shelter
  • Assisted five families in the Housing Stabilization Program

Sinai Family Shelter is dedicated to Family Promise’s national mission to “Transform the lives of ONE MILLION children by 2030”.
