“The strangers who reside with you shall be to you as your citizens; you shall love each one as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.”-Leviticus 19:34

Now is the opportunity for us as Temple Sinai to fulfill this mitzvah. Temple Sinai has been assigned to help settle a Refugee Ukrainian family. This project is supported by Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta and JF&CS. We are welcoming them after a traumatic journey and want to make their new house feel like a home as soon as possible (currently they only have beds). These efforts are spearheaded by Temple Sinai’s Immigrant and Refugee Justice Co-Chairs, Janie Fishman and Leslie Walden.

There are 4 ways to help:

1. Amazon Wishlist
Purchase items for the family from their Amazon Wishlist. Be sure you select the Ban Family for the shipping address. Click here to purchase items from the Wishlist. Any questions, contact the Amazon Wishlist Co-Chairs - Myla Lind or Jan Jay.

2. Donate Furniture
We have a target date of June 5 to furnish their home in completion. Please note, we ONLY need the items listed below. If you have any of the listed items in gently used condition please contact the Furniture Co-Chairs - Laura Holtzclaw and Ilana Shure.

The following furniture items are needed:

3. Assist with Picking Up and Delivering Furniture
We need volunteers to physically move furniture. This would be ideal for individuals who have access to a pickup truck or van and can lift heavy furniture. Starting now through June 5th we need to collect all the listed items and secure them into our storage unit in Sandy Springs. The storage facility is located on Roswell Road across from Weber High School. This would be a great opportunity for kids home from college!

4. Donate to Relief Funds through Temple Sinai and/or Jewish Federation

  • Temple Sinai’s Refugee and Immigrant Relief Fund - Donate Here
  • Jewish Federation’s Ukraine Emergency Fund - Click this link and choose from several options including a contribution to supporting the Ukraine crisis in the greater Atlanta area.

Thank you for your help! Should you have any questions about this opportunity, please reach out to us!
