2019-2020 SCRUFY Leadership Board

If you would like the opportunity to work alongside your friends and peers from Temple Sinai, to gain leadership experience and to be a part of helping strengthen the SCRUFY Community at Temple Sinai, the SCRUFY Leadership Board is for you. Additionally, you will gain valuable leadership, communication, and job skills that will benefit you throughout your life.

Before applying please consider if you have time in your schedule to attend monthly meetings, chair events, and help with various assigned tasks. This is a significant time commitment. This is a one-year opportunity from June 2019 to June 2020. Please take this into consideration to make sure that this is the best year for you to apply. There are many ways to be a leader in the SCRUFY community without being on the SLB.

Purpose: The purpose of the SCRUFY Leadership Board is to create a meaningful, productive, and inclusive leadership structure and to provide teens opportunities to become well rounded leaders in SCRUFY.

Requirements:

  • Rising 9th-12th Grader at Temple Sinai
  • Attended at least 3 SINAI678 or 3 SCRUFY events during the 2018-2019 school year

Structure: The SCRUFY Leadership Board is composed of 9th Grade Representatives, General Board Members, and Executive Board Members who will all meet monthly to vision the possibilities of engaging teens in SCRUFY and brainstorm and implement dynamic programming. Leadership Board members will sign up to co-chair different events i.e. Supper Sloppy Night, Regressive Dinner, Israel Night, etc. Each event will be chaired by 1-2 Freshman Representatives and 2-3 Leadership Board Members in partnership with at least 1 Executive Board member.

Executive Board (11th & 12th Graders):

  • Appointed rising juniors and/or seniors from the General Board who have shown leadership skills, dedication to SCRUFY, etc.
  • Responsibilities: help plan, run, and lead meetings, hold fellow board members accountable, supervise the planning and execution of events, supervise SCRUFY social media accounts, and more.
  • Be a liaison between the Leadership Board and the SCRUFY Advisor.

General Board (10th-12th Graders):

  • Dedicated 10th-12th graders who are interested in strengthening SCRUFY as a youth group and grow as leaders.
  • Responsibilities: help plan and run events, help promote SCRUFY and NFTY to Temple Sinai peers, and more.
  • Be a liaison between the Leadership Board and the Temple Sinai teens.

Freshman Representatives (9th Graders):

  • Driven 9th graders who would like to learn about being on a youth group board and help
  • Responsibilities: help plan and run events, help promote SCRUFY and NFTY to Temple Sinai peers, and more.
  • Be a liaison between the Leadership Board and the Temple Sinai 9th grade class.


Being on the SCRUFY Leadership Board means you are committing to:

  • Attending monthly in-person meetings – dates and times will be determined after selection of the team. More than two meeting absences may result in dismissal from the SCRUFY Leadership Board.
  • Attend a kick-off retreat in August and a mid-year retreat in January
  • Co-Chair at least 2 events per semester
  • Attend at least 6 Teen Lounges and 6 Saturday Events
  • Help expand our SCRUFY community by inviting other Sinai teens to participate in events
  • Must be able to work as a team, be a good communicator, and be willing to put in time outside of meetings to work
  • Be an active leader at all events


Application Process:

  • Applications are due by 5 PM on Friday, August 9th
  • Not everyone who applies will be accepted to the SCRUFY Leadership Board. There will be many opportunities to help write and lead programs, and be involved as a leader in other capacities without being on the SLB.
  • You will be notified by 5 PM on Friday, August 16th
