A Musical Love Letter to Israel from Atlanta

Beth Schafer

We have all felt the power and sense of unity when we sing together. In that spirit, we thought that the city of Atlanta could send a gesture of love and support during this time of crisis and war to the State of Israel in the form of music.

While the words “Am Yisrael Chai” (the people of Israel live) is the perfect sentiment, I received a message from an Israeli while sheltering in her safe room that the second line of Am Yisrael Chai should be “Oz Rucheinu Po,” “our spirits are strong here.” With that source of inspiration, I composed a new musical setting with the updated words.

On Sunday, December 10 from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm, you are invited to gather at the Rosenberg Performing Arts Center at the Davis Academy (8105 Roberts Drive Atlanta, GA 30350) for a live recording and filming of YOU sending this musical love letter to our brothers and sisters in Israel.

You can download the words/music and a rough mp3 to learn the melody at https://tinyurl.com/238hp3c8. You will receive an updated track before December 10th with the exact form of the song. There are social media banners on our Am Yisrael Chai Live webpage that you can share as well.

  • You DO NOT have to be the world’s best singer to participate, the song is easy!
  • You DO NEED to wear your Israel or institution shirts, bring your flags and make your signs of love and support for Israel!
  • Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the venue.
  • You will be required to agree to use your likeness and image for promotional purposes.

Because the theater has a limited capacity, registration is required. You do not need to be Jewish to participate, in fact including our friends and family of other faith traditions is the biggest gesture of love and support there is, but all have to register.

Immediately after the filming, we will hear from Israeli Consul General, Anat Sultan-Dadon, as she updates us on efforts in Israel, and what we can do to support Israel’s needs.

Looking forward to singing with you.

Am Yisrael Chai,

Beth Schafer
