Bring Them Home - Now!

Rabbi Brad Levenberg

They have become ubiquitous, hanging around the necks of those who have visited Israel since October 7. They have replaced other time-honored keepsakes brought back as gifts, a poignant act of, at the same time, solidarity and critique. They were born out of frustration that the narrative of the hostages whom Hamas took on that terrible morning was being lost to the military campaign intended to eliminate Hamas and the network of tunnels that so easily enabled the terror attack. In addition to raising awareness, 100% of the proceeds from their sale go to an organization singularly dedicated to providing support to the families of the hostages and to telling their stories.

The tags – Diskit in Hebrew – come from an organization known as the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a volunteer-based and led organization formed by the families of the abductees on October 8. The Forum is truly impressive, offering family members and friends of the hostages medical and emotional support, professional assistance, and logistical support (such as providing rides, laundry service, schooling, etc., to family members of abductees). They have embarked upon a massive public relations campaign to keep the names and faces of the hostages from and center. They also count an impressive array of retirees from the diplomatic corps among their ranks. These ex-diplomats work back channels in their networks for the sole purpose of bringing the hostages home now.

Thanks to the generosity of a Temple Sinai member, we purchased 600 of these tags, which are now available for sale at Sinai. We are selling each tag for $10; the same amount per tag if one were to purchase directly from the Forum. As a result, this worthwhile organization receives double the donation. To purchase, fill out this form and pick up at the Sinai front desk; or bring $10 per necklace (credit card, check or exact change please) to the Temple Sinai main office during business hours.

Wearing the tag is important, as is if one does not feel comfortable wearing one, displaying it in a place where it will receive attention.

May the day come soon when these tags are irrelevant. That will mean that the hostages are home and their families are supported. It will mean that our prayers were indeed answered.

Ken Y’hi Ratzon. So may it be God’s will.

Amen.
